Biomass with Carbon Capture and Storage (BiCRS) + Direct Air Capture (DAC) + Net Zero Strategy + Project Assurance

Dr. Wilfried Maas supports clients with strategic advice, due diligence and project assurance on their clean energy transition, amongst others for project development and execution. Dr. Maas also contributes to Carbon Direct's activities on EU Green Deal policies, specifically on the EU Sustainable Carbon Cycles/ Carbon Dioxide Removal initiatives and Industrial Carbon Management.

Dr. Maas brings expertise to inform investment decisions, project management and provide strategic advisory services to clients. He brings experience from his 32-year energy and carbon management career at Shell and from his Joint Industry Collaborations on CCS and Climate (IEA, IEAGHG, OGCI, ZEP, IOGP, TCM). He has developed decarbonization pathways for “Net Zero Carbon” production and products for different industrial supply chains based on CCS, electrification, (blue or green) hydrogen and biomass.

Furthermore Dr. Maas coordinated the development of the global portfolio of commercial scale CCS demonstration projects and the Shell’s organizational CCS competence and capability. He also contributed to external collaborations for the new business development of CCS as one of the decarbonization solutions for a climate-constrained future. In other roles, he led consultancy teams that developed corporate-wide GHG and energy management practices for capital projects and operational assets; and he has been a front-end development manager for projects.

He holds a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Amsterdam, is a chartered project professional and a chartered Engineer. 

Dr. Maas has been Director of the CCS Knowledge Centre and Executive Committee member of the IEA GHG Technology Collaboration Program.
