Peter uses his experience in forestry and geospatial analysis across industry, academia and the public sector to help scale decarbonization of the economy using nature-based strategies.
Peter is a geographer and environmental scientist by training. Peter comes to Carbon Direct with experience in forest carbon quantification, carbon offsets, forest management, bioenergy, and finance. Previously, Peter directed investment analytics at New Forests, a timberland investment management company where he helped deploy over $500M in capital in US timberlands shifting management from timber production to forest carbon offsets. Peter oversaw all aspects of the development of timberland valuation models from underwriting through disposition. Prior to that, Peter worked at the University of California Center for Forestry as an academic coordinator and as a post-doc at the UC Berkeley Energy Biosciences Institute. Peter received his Ph.D. in geography from UC Davis where he studied bioenergy and forests through the lens of geographic information systems and remote sensing. Peter lives in Oakland, California with his partner and two young sons.
