Julia Yang, PhD
Forest Carbon Scientist
Forest Ecology and Management + Climate Risk & Resilience
Dr. Julia Yang uses her experience in forest ecology and carbon cycling to understand and evaluate the risks and benefits of carbon projects around the world.
Prior to joining Carbon Direct Julia was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where she used demographic vegetation modeling to optimize reforestation strategies in the neotropics. Julia earned her PhD in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Utah where her research broadly focused on how carbon and water cycling in forests responds to changing temperatures, drought, and snowpack. She has worked in forests across the US using a combination of intensive field measurement campaigns, ecosystem level CO2 flux monitoring, near-surface remote sensing, and data synthesis.
